Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, affecting the environment and society in numerous ways. This phenomenon is driven by both natural and human activities, with technology being a significant factor. Throughout history, technology has been essential to human development, yet it has also caused considerable environmental harm. From the Industrial Revolution to the digital age, industrial growth and urban expansion have increased greenhouse gas emissions, accelerating global warming and climate change.
In recent decades, environmental awareness has spurred the development of sustainable technologies, such as solar and wind energy, to mitigate environmental damage. However, producing these technologies poses challenges of its own, such as material and energy consumption, which also contributes to the carbon footprint. Additionally, technology presents other environmental issues, like digital pollution and planned obsolescence, which worsen the ecological crisis. To address these challenges, recycling practices and responsible resource use are promoted to balance technological progress with environmental conservation. Lo
Technology has also transformed the global economy, boosting industrial efficiency and productivity. Innovations in artificial intelligence, automation, and the internet have driven significant economic growth, although at the cost of high resource consumption. Globalization and advances in telecommunications have enabled companies to connect globally, optimizing operations but also contributing to resource depletion. In this context, adopting sustainable technological practices is crucial to addressing the United Nations’ “triple planetary crisis” of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
