Abstract

This review article explores in detail black holes, astrophysical phenomena that challenge the laws of physics as we know them. These objects are formed when a massive star collapses after exhausting its nuclear energy, leading to a region of space where gravity is so intense that not even light can escape. The collapse generates a central singularity, where the laws of physics cease to apply, and an event horizon, which marks the boundary beyond which nothing can escape. This mystery has sparked great scientific interest due to the questions it raises about the nature of space-time and its implications for our understanding of the universe. The review analyzes various theories on the formation of black holes, emphasizing the processes involved, such as the collapse of massive stars at the end of their life cycle and the merger of neutron stars. These processes can give rise to different types of black holes: stellar, supermassive, and intermediate. Each type has specific characteristics and offers different perspectives on its impact and behavior in the universe. These black holes can influence the evolution of galaxies, as their gravity affects stars and other celestial bodies around them. Additionally, the review delves into how general relativity describes the effects on space-time near the event horizon. This theoretical framework helps understand the extreme distortions that occur near a black hole. The review also addresses the information paradox, which presents an important challenge: the apparent disappearance of information contained in matter that falls into a black hole. This enigma has been a central topic of discussion in modern physics, as it calls into question fundamental principles of quantum theory.
