Abstract

This reflection article focuses on analyzing in depth the impact of video games on multiple dimensions of adolescents' lives. Explores both the benefits and potential detrimental effects of video games in psychological, behavioral, educational, social, interpersonal, and family areas during this critical stage of youth development.

The study specifically addresses how video games can shape adolescents' cognitive progress, having the potential to improve skills such as problem solving, decision making, and concentration. However, it also examines how excessive use can negatively affect mental health, leading to anxiety, depression or social isolation.

Likewise, it analyzes the impact of video games on academic performance, pointing out that in moderate doses they can enhance active learning and critical thinking, while abuse is related to distraction, procrastination and educational deterioration. Regarding the social, positive effects such as collaboration between peers are explored, and risks such as the replacement of real interactions with virtual ones.

Regarding family dynamics, problems in communication and parental control are discussed when adolescents spend excessive time immersed in video games. The article highlights the need to establish clear limits and supervise video game use to mitigate negative impacts during adolescence.
