In this Reflection Article, we will investigate sustainable fashion in Colombia, starting with a study of the environmental effect produced by the textile industry, one of the most harmful to the environment. Through procedures such as the mass production of clothing, the use of artificial materials and the dispersion of toxic waste, conventional fashion contributes to the deterioration of ecosystems, particularly in developing nations such as Colombia.
Next, we will deal with the phenomenon of Fast Fashion, a commercial strategy that promotes the large-scale manufacture of economical and disposable clothing. This model promotes excessive consumption and produces large volumes of waste, thus aggravating the environmental crisis. In Colombia, Fast Fashion is experiencing a great influence, with evident impacts on local communities.
Finally, the article will focus on possible solutions to achieve greater durability in Colombian fashion. Options such as the application of organic and recycled materials, ecological and local manufacturing, the implementation of Slow Fashion and the promotion of practices such as repair, recycling and conscious consumption will be discussed. In addition, reference will be made to initiatives and brands in Colombia that are leading the transition to a more conscious industry and how consumers can play an essential role in this change.
Finally, despite the considerable challenges, there are obvious routes to more sustainable fashion in Colombia, promoted by innovation, social dedication and an increase in ecological awareness.
