Abstract

Access to microenterprise finance is recognized as a strategic component that drives business growth. In this context, this study aims to examine the scientific literature analyzing access to microenterprise finance and its effect on business growth. For methodological purposes, the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases were searched, adopting an exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach. The most relevant documents published between 2005 and 2025 that link studies on access to finance, characteristics of microentrepreneurs, and business growth were selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria, following the PRISMA protocol. From the selection of 52 documents, the main conceptual and empirical debates surrounding the most representative factors influencing access to microenterprise finance and its impact on business growth were identified. In particular, the findings show that access to financial resources is closely related to the profile of the business leaders, their level of education, the organization's internal affairs, and the dynamics of the business environment. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of analyzing microenterprises from a comprehensive perspective, considering the organizational, individual, and contextual factors that condition or facilitate access to financial resources, with criteria of opportunity and sustainability as organizational elements that favor business growth.
