Abstract

The main objective of this research is to determine the competitiveness factors of SMEs in the tourism sector in the city of San José de Cúcuta and its Metropolitan Area. It is based on the relationship between competitiveness and tourism, the study is quantitative and descriptive. The instruments used included an interview with two representatives of Cotelco and the Corporación Mixta de Promoción de Norte de Santander and a survey of entrepreneurs. The results obtained indicate that the main factors that affect the competitiveness of the sector are the lack of planning and the lack of a sense of belonging to the region, and in the external factors, the lack of capacity to organise tourist attractions.
