Abstract

In isolated microgrids, the inappropriate placement of photovoltaic generation systems can lead to voltage regulation imbalances, increased power losses, and underutilization of renewable resources. This situation limits the system's energy efficiency and operational stability. This article presents a methodological approach for determining the optimal placement of photovoltaic systems in an isolated microgrid, based on load flow analysis and the evaluation of various operating scenarios. The methodology addresses technical criteria, such as voltage regulation as the primary selection criterion, and power losses and voltage profiles as validation parameters. This strategy is applied to a case study of a microgrid composed of a main node integrating a battery storage system, a fixed photovoltaic array, and five nodes arranged in a radial topology, each associated with single phase residential loads. The objective is to include additional photovoltaic generation at two more points within the microgrid. The results obtained by applying the methodology show that nodes one and five are the most suitable locations for additional photovoltaic generation systems, as the configuration reduces energy losses, improves the voltage profile at the nodes, and maintains stable regulation on the lines.
