Financial analysis of the Colombian banking sector in the period 2016 - 2020

The purpose of this study was to analyze the financial situation and the economic results of the banking establishments in Colombia. A literature review of articles published in databases such as Scopus, Redalyc, and Google Scholar was initially carried out in order to support the study. In this sense, views related to financial analysis and management from different contexts were presented. Next, a sampling of the financial statements obtained through the website of the Financial Superintendence of Colombia was carried out. Analytical procedures were developed, applying quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The financial analysis allowed to establish a diagnosis of the banking sector in Colombia, from the application of 7 financial indicators, considered relevant; categorized in the order of solvency, financing and profitability, carried out individually for each banking establishment, going through a combined analysis of a cross-sectional nature and time series, consolidated in reference data that incorporated the behavior and performance of the sector in the period 2016 - 2020. Finally, it was possible to have a financial analysis, describing relevant aspects of the banking sector in Colombia, reasonably fulfilling the purpose of the investigation.
